Voices of Volunteers

“Last year at arrival we were directed to D lot. We were stressed bc we had heard stories of D lot. The guy who helped us, remained calm, redirected our stress and got us on our way. He did an AMAZING job and I wish I remembered his name. While he was working with us and handling other stuff, WE COULD TELL that he was BUSY and that they were short on volunteers. He was our inspiration that fueled our want to volunteer with GPE. We FEEL this dept is right for us bc, we can be that person that helps direct participants, gets inspections done and get participants back on track, hopefully with the same care and finesse of that guy who helped us.”

“I get to touch many people’s excitement about finally being at Burning Man. These are fleeting moments of eye contact, a joke, a question that fill me up.”

“GPE is the most beautiful collection of misfit toys. You’ll find fun, family, and a lot of amazing experiences (which is a wholesome way of saying “how the heck did I get here, what choices did I make to deserve this, and how do I make sure they keep me forever?”)

“They said, you should check out GPE! I didn’t think I’d fit in. I volunteered anyway. The amazing thing? I found my people. They love problem solving and teamwork, and so do I. We lift each other up. Sometimes on top of janky art cars. We work hard. We play hard and we play well, with consent and kindness. I volunteered with other BRC teams, and 13 years later I’m grateful and proud to wear the GPE logo.”

“Friends said I would have fun and find a way to like Burning Man again. Over fifteen years later they were still right, for me Joining this groups was a way that I have made friends for a lifetime and I’m really grateful. The joy I get from looking at what we all did together over the years still fills me with joy. Being in GPE is a unique and different experience that I will cherish forever.”
